Konstantin Uralsky and the KALIOPA Ballet

Konstantin Uralsky and the ballet "CALIOPA"

The choreographer Konstantin Uralsky and the ballet "KALIOPA" on the Rousse stage within the International Festival "March Music Days"!

Last autumn I received a letter from the director of the Ruse Opera Plamen Beykov.

He offered me to look at materials for the new ballet "Kaliopa", based mainly on the ancient legend of the city of Ruse.

After reading Calliope's story, I saw that this theme was very interesting - a love story fit for a beautiful ballet.

I was soon sent a recording of the music that was performed at the March Music Days festival in 2023.

To be honest, I was not very familiar with the work of Maestro Emil Tabakov until that moment. I was so moved by his work that I immediately started listening to his other works available on the internet. I was very intrigued by the idea of this project and agreed to take on the production.

In October, I met with the production team. My meetings with the librettist Alexander Malchev, the composer Emil Tabakov, the set designer Elitsa Georgieva and the costume designer Parvoleta Chavdarova - Letizia were fruitful. And of course, the director of the theatre, who took over the production responsibility, was surprisingly full of the energy of the upcoming new great theatre work.

These meetings and the acquaintance with the ballet company only strengthened my desire to come to Ruse, which I liked very much when I first met, and to recreate the ancient love legend in ballet language...

A few months of serious preparation have passed and today I am back in this beautiful cosy city, on the banks of the great Danube, already in production work with the ballet company. The artists have been very energetic and share the joy of being involved in creating the world premiere of this difficult piece.

I love Bulgaria very much!
I have many friends and colleagues here. I often come to rest, to see them and to enjoy the Bulgarian cuisine.

Now, however, I came here on business. This performance will be my fourth ballet production in Bulgarian theatres. Before that I staged the ballet Doctor Zhivago in Varna, The Nutcracker in Stara Zagora and Swan Lake in Plovdiv.

I am a happy choreographer who has created a number of world premieres. I travel the world extensively, staging my shows, sharing my art with artists and audiences in Russia, the USA, Europe and South America. Eight new ballet scores have been created based on my libretti, which have been successfully premiered in various countries with my choreography.

"Calyopa will be a new ballet, staged by me, to a score created especially for the premiere!

Recently in Turkey I premiered the two-act ballet Carmen to music by Bizet. It was the 50th performance in my career as a choreographer. "Calyopa" will open the score for a new top ten! Isn't that wonderful!

The performance will be part of the International MMD Festival this year!

On 25 March we are waiting for you in the Great Hall of the Dokhodno Building for an unforgettable experience with the premiere ballet "Calyopa", created by two outstanding and award-winning artists and Russians - the composer and conductor Emil Tabakov and the librettist Alexander Malchev!
