Maria Helgath is a dynamic mezzo-soprano and actress whose artistry transcends borders, captivating audiences on international opera and concert stages as well as in theater and film. Her exceptional vocal and dramatic range allows her to seamlessly navigate traditional and contemporary repertoires.
On the operatic stage, Maria's repertoire includes Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Carmen, Princess Eboli (Don Carlos), Octavian (Cavalier of the Rose), Charlotte (Werther), Sesto (Julius Caesar) and Dorabella (Thus Do All Women). Some of her recent appearances include her debut as Lucy in Opera for Three Pennies at the Imling Festival and performances with the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic. Her interest in wide-ranging repertoire extends to operetta and musical theatre with roles such as Joseph Vogelhuber (The White Horse Inn) and Katie (The Last Five Years).
Maria is a sought-after soloist on international concert stages, collaborating with leading ensembles such as the Munich Philharmonic, Gulbenkian Orchestra Lisbon, Concerto Köln, and L’arpa festante. She has performed under the baton of esteemed conductors, including Dennis Russell Davies and Iván Fischer. Her repertoire spans from Bach and Mozart to modern masterpieces like La fabbrica illuminata (Nono).
Her passion for innovation has led to roles in experimental and crossover productions, including Étude for an Emergency (Florentina Holzinger), The Creation (Claudia Bauer), and Welcome to the Garden (Franziska Angerer).
As an actress, Maria has appeared in acclaimed productions such as Steppenwolf and Frankenstein and films including A Year Ago in Winter. She also regularly features in ARD and ZDF television productions. Her collaborations with celebrated directors such as Caroline Link, Claudia Bauer, and Dirk Regel further highlight her artistic versatility.
Maria’s training includes vocal studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and acting and musical theater at the Theaterakademie August Everding. She has honed her skills in masterclasses with luminaries such as Edda Moser and Ingeborg Danz.
A prizewinner of the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin and the King’s Peak International Music Competition, Maria has performed at prestigious venues, including Staatstheater Nürnberg, Münchner Kammerspiele, Theater Freiburg, and Prinzregententheater München, bringing her artistry to audiences worldwide.
