In 1943. Bulgaria saved the lives of 48,000 of its Jewish citizens.
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin and the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Federal Republic of Germany present to the Berlin audience an exhibition of works by Bulgarian artists of Jewish origin from the collection of the Art Gallery in Ruse: Marco Behar, Anna Kramer-Behar, David Peretz, Petranka Katz, Eliezer Alshek, Jacques Avdala, Volodya Kenarev, Grady Assa and Andrei Daniel and a concert of klezmer music performed by the Enigma Formation of the State Opera - Ruse.
Enigma is a chamber formation composed of prominent instrumentalists from the orchestra of the State Opera - Ruse. Since its inception the formation has participated in the concert programme of the State Opera - Ruse and has been an active partner in various national cultural events. The talented musicians are united in realizing chamber projects and in creating a beautiful, enjoyable and meaningful experience for the audience. They share the joy of music and reveal the mysteries of chamber music making through the successful combination of talent, extensive experience, remarkable ensemble culture and high instrumental professionalism. In its repertoire, the ensemble maintains original opuses and adaptations of inspiring works and masterpieces of chamber classical music from various eras and styles.
The events are under the patronage of the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Federal Republic of Germany - H. Pr. Grigor Porozhanov.
