The Prince in Cinderella ballet - Sora Tsuzuki

Sora Tsuzuki: I feel like I'm in another world—completely transformed and romantic

On March 17 at 7 p.m. at the Revenue Building, the State Opera – Rousse will immerse the audience in a fairy-tale world, playfully intertwining Sergei Prokofiev's music and the incredible story of Cinderella, which will transform the stage into a living and inspiring picture of faith in goodness and its invincibility.

The role of the Prince in Sergei Prokofiev's ballet is danced by Japanese ballet dancer Sora Tsuzuki, who happily shared his excitement before the performance:

How do you feel as a prince and as a man in love with Cinderella?

Oh, if only I were really a prince… I feel like I’m in another world, completely transformed and romantic. As for Cinderella, it was probably love at first sight. And above all, I think I sensed her kindness, which is a very powerful experience for me.

What are the pitfalls for you in this role as a ballet dancer and artist?

This isn’t the original Cinderella; in the original, the prince is both a prince and a shoemaker. So I think the audience will enjoy a Cinderella that’s different from the original, but very moving. Technically, the role doesn’t pose a challenge for me, but in terms of character and sensitivity, there was a lot for me to learn and develop.

Considering that you come from a different culture, when did you first encounter Charles Perrault's story of Cinderella?

I don’t really remember. But I do recall my sister reading a picture book about Cinderella. I feel like I’m getting to know Cinderella, and it’s becoming more and more interesting to me.

Have you danced in this Prokofiev ballet before?

I had never danced this ballet before. That’s why I was excited to play the Prince in Cinderella at the premiere on December 6 last year. I’m excited this time, too.

What qualities in your character inspire you and would you like to possess?

The Prince is brave, romantic, and ready to stand up for his love. Moreover, he isn’t concerned with social conventions; the Prince has no prejudices regarding Cinderella’s background or the fact that she isn’t a noblewoman. That is what I would like to adopt in my own life.
