History

Children Opera

The Ruse Children's Opera is home to young talents and enthusiastic performers, giving children the opportunity to experience the magic of musical and theatrical art. Through its productions it cultivates a love of the performing arts and encourages new generations of artists.

Founding of the Ruse Children's Opera

Ruse Children's Opera was founded in 2015 by the idea of the then director of the State Opera Ruse Nayden Todorov and the conductor Gancho Ganchev. This is the second such formation in Bulgaria after the Children's and Youth Opera in Varna, whose creative model it develops. The first performance of the Ruse Children's Opera was the Christmas musical "Scrooge" (16.12.2015) with conductor and director Gancho Ganchev. The participants were selected by casting and initially were children from the National School of Arts "Prof. В. Stoyanov" and Ruse vocal schools. A special team was created to work with the children: vocal pedagogue - Svilen Dimitrov, theatre pedagogues - Rositsa Minovska-Devedjieva and Ilia Devedjiev, dance pedagogues - Malina Arnaudova and Radka Nedelcheva, accompanist - Bojena Ivanova.

Early productions and first achievements

In 2016 the Ruse Children's Opera staged another musical with conductor and director Gancho Ganchev - "West Side Story" (28.06.2016), stage adaptation by Miglena Shisheva. With this production, not yet a year old, Ruse Children's Opera makes a decisive step, which earned a well-deserved place in the program of the State Opera Ruse. With a winning project before the Foundation "Ruse - City of Free Spirit" the first independent performance of the Ruse Children's Opera was created - the operetta "Annie in the kingdom of flowers" (30.10.2016) with music by Ivan Krastev and libretto (based on Maurice Karem) by Ilia Devedjiev. For this performance students from the ballet classes of the National School of Arts "Prof. В. Stoyanov" with teacher Denitsa Ancheva.

Development and training of young talents

Soon the Ruse Children's Opera recruited new participants and the ensemble numbered 45 children aged 7 to 17. At the same time, a system of regular classes in vocal technique, acting and dance was established. The Ruse Children's Opera operates as a school for young artists. In the following year, the team accepts a big challenge - Alan Menckel's "Beauty and the Beast" (10.05.2017) with a new adaptation, a new translation and a new arrangement.

Repertoire and performances outside Ruse

After the successful premiere the titles of the Children's Opera permanently enter the repertoire of the State Opera Ruse. The dance teachers Radka Nedelcheva and Malina Arnaudova created a Dance Studio for younger children who joined the performances of the Children's Opera. The performances are presented in Sofia and in the nearby towns of Razgrad, Tutrakan and Silistra. In 2018 the Ruse Children's Opera adds to its schedule the concert-performance "A New World" and the Christmas concert-performance "Save Christmas!", and in 2023 - the performance "Journey into the Musical" with songs from famous musicals.

The uniqueness and importance of the Ruse Children's Opera

The uniqueness of the Ruse Children's Opera is that this formation was born and boldly walked straight onto the professional stage of the State Opera Ruse with its highly professional orchestra. It is important to note that through the wide palette of activities of its teachers, the children are already tangibly present in the cultural program of the city. From an early age, they are developed as complex artists and outstanding creators.

Mission and Future of the Ruse Children's Opera

The pedagogical team of the Ruse Children's Opera is aware that not all participants will become professional artists. But all those who dedicate themselves to working with children are convinced that their activity is a message and an open invitation for new and new children and parents into the great world of opera, operetta and musical. And in that world there are many places to be filled - now and in the future - on stage, back stage and in the auditorium.
