MUSICAL OFFERING

The masterpiece of the polyphonic style, Musical Offering (also known as Musical Sacrifice), was created by the divine musical genius Johann Sebastian Bach in 1747 on the occasion of his visit to the King of Prussia, Frederick the Great, in the royal city of Potsdam. The gathering of musicians from the Orchestra of the Ruse Opera to perform this work is an expression of their all-encompassing musical and artistic interests. This is further confirmed by the second piece in the concert program - the Eighth String Quartet by the genius of the previous century, Dmitri Shostakovich. This seemingly coincidental coming together of soloist musicians in an unusual ensemble turns the concert into a unique occasion to showcase their interpretative and masterful skills in both Baroque music and the music of the 20th century. With professional humility and exceptional focus, they demonstrate an incredible sense of style and profound introspection, refined through years of professional experience. The musicians of the ensemble each possess distinct artistic personalities - they are not alike, yet united by the strength of their technical mastery, they express a vivid sense of mutual understanding and shared emotion in the one essential feeling that gives birth to great art - confession.
