Artists in all the arts, from the beginning of the 19th century, with the development of the ideas of Romanticism, increasingly undertook journeys to various attractive parts of Europe - from the Mediterranean to the northern countries of the Old Continent. The symphonic programme Schubert and Mendelssohn is dedicated to this all-embracing artistic phenomenon, which even then gave a clear sign of the emancipation of the personality of the European citizen. The concert poster includes the symphonic overture Hebrides, the fruit of Mendelssohn's admiration for the grandeur of nature. It is dedicated to Fingal's Cave, a sea cave on the island of Staffa, part of the Hebrides, Scotland, majestic in its size and acoustics. A trip back in time is offered by the performance of Schubert's Fifth Symphony, a reminiscence of the days of the rise of Viennese Classicism, refracted through the sensibility of Romanticism. The work has become a musical expression of Schubert's unadulterated enthusiasm and sheer youthful reverence for Mozart's genius.
