Ventseslav Anastasov

Born in Ruse (Bulgaria), Ventseslav Anastasov is the third generation of one of the most well-known families of opera singers in Bulgaria. He started his musical education at an early age, playing the piano and classical guitar, and later began studying opera singing with Maestro Georgi Deliganev. In 1990 he moved to Sofia where he continued his studies with Maestro Asen Selimski at the National Academy of Music, where he graduated with the highest honors in 1996. In 1995 he made his debut in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” playing Figaro with great success, and shortly after he got hired in the Opera House of Ruse as a soloist, where he played roles such as Belcore in “The Elixir of Love”, Marcello or Schaunard in “La bohème”, Sharpless in “Madama Butterfly”, Zurga in “Les pêcheurs de Perles”, Doctor Malatesta in “Don Pasquale” and many more. Later on, he took part in a tour which led him to play all of these roles in the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and England. He debuted in the summer festival of Varna with “Fabola per la Scala” in 2002 and was immediately invited for the upcoming seasons to sing roles such as Germont in “La Traviata”, Onegin in “Eugene Onegin”, Belcore in “The Elixir of Love”, Ezio in “Attila”, The Count of Luna in “Il Trovatore”, Don Giovanni, Marchese di Posa in “Don Carlo”, and others. In 2005 he made his debut in the Opera House of Sofia in the role of Escamillo for which he was given a high assessment by the audience and critics. With the same role, he debuted in The Palace of the Arts in Valencia with conductor Maestro Lorin Maazel and director Carlos Saura. Subsequently, he sang Marchese di Posa in “Don Carlo”, once again conducted by Maestro Lorin Maazel. In the season of 2007-2008, he effectively participated in the productions of The Palace of the Arts singing “Obruchenie v Monastire” (“Betrothal in a Monastery") conducted by Maestro D. Jurovskii, in Turandot alongside Maria Guleghina and Marco Berti under the conductorship of Zubin Mehta and in the production of the Metropolitan Opera “Iphigénie en Tauride” alongside with Maestro Plácido Domingo. In 2009 he made his debut in the great role of Rigoletto in the Opera House of Sofia and afterward was invited to take part in the St. Margarethen Festival (Austria) to recreate his success in the same role. Meanwhile, he takes the roles of Scarpia in “Tosca”, Figaro and Count Almaviva in “Le Nozze di Figaro”, "Nabucco", "Macbeth", and in the summer festival of Solothurn (Switzerland) he sang Marcello in “La Bohéme” with great success. Ventseslav debuted in Teatro Massimo of Palermo with the opera “Simon Boccanegra” shortly after he was invited by Maestro Lorin Maazel to participate in the Grand Opening of Guangzhou Opera House with "Turandot”. He made his debut in Regio di Parma with great success in the role of Ezio in “Attila”, after which he sang in the Opera House of Sofia in the Ghena Dimitrova memorial concert. In 2011 he returned to Palau de las Arts to take a part in the production of “Boris Godunov” directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. He had great success both in playing Barnaba in “La Gioconda” alongside Elisabetta Fiorillo, Roberto Scandiuzzi, and Giovanna Casola at the Teatro Politeama Greco of Lecce and taking part in the production of “Der König Kandaules” at Teatro Massimo of Palermo. He recently made his debut at the theatre “San Carlo” of Naples in the production of “Rigoletto” together with Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Desirée Rancatore, and Stefan Pop with conductor Maestro Pier Giorgio Morandi. In June of that same year, he debuted in Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste with the role of Ezio in “Attila” with his brother Orlin Anastassov, for which he gained great recognition. At the Solothurn Festival in 2013, he took part in many Gala Concerts and with different roles such as Renato in “Un Ballo in Maschera” and Amonasro in “Aida” alongside stars like Mario Malagnini and Michéle Crider. In 2014 he played the role of Friedrich in the opera “Das Liebesverbot” in Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi (Teatro Verdi Trieste). In 2015 he took part in the Split Summer Festival in Croatia, where he took the part of the High Priest of Dagon in “Samson and Delilah” and Amonasro in “Aida”. The same year he sang in “Turandot” with Maestro Zubin Mehta and Andrea Bocelli in Lajatico (Toscana). In 2016 he played in “Ernani” In The Opera House of Split and in “La Forza del Destino” In Sofia. Later that year he played again the role of Escamillo in “Carmen” alongside Anita Rachvelishvili and in 2017 he sang Schelkalov in “Boris Godunov” in the Opera House of Marseille.

In 1995 he made his debut in Il Barbiere di Seviglia as Figaro with great success and shortly afterwards was hired by the Rousse Opera as a soloist where he played roles such as Belcore in The Elixir of Love, Marcello or Chanard in La Boheme, Sharpless in Madame Butterfly, Zurga in The Pearl Fishermen, Doctor Malatesta in Don Pasquale and many others. Later he participated in a tour that led him to play all these roles in Holland, Belgium, Switzerland and England.

He debuted at the Varna Summer Festival with Fabola per la Scala in 2002 and was immediately invited for the upcoming seasons to sing roles such as Germont in La Traviata, Onegin in Eugene Onegin, Belcore in Elixir of Love, Ezio in Attila, Count Luna in Il Trovatore, Don Giovanni, Marquis di Possa in Don Carlo, etc.

In 2005 she made her debut at the Sofia Opera with the role of Escamillo, for which she won high praise among the audience and critics. With the same role she made her debut at the Palace of Arts in Valencia with Maestro Lorin Maazel conducting and Carlos Saura directing. He subsequently entered the role of the Marquis di Posa in Don Carlo, again with Maestro Lorin Maazel conducting. During the 2007-2008 season, he participated extensively in the productions of the Palace of Arts, singing "Marriage in the Convent" ("Marriage in the Convent"), conducted by Maestro D. Jurowski, in "Turandot" with Maria Gulegina and Marco Berti under the direction of conductor Zubin Mehta and in the Metropolitan Opera production of "Iphigenia in Tauris" with Maestro Placido Domingo.

In 2009, he made his debut in the great role of Rigoletto at the Sofia Opera Theatre and was then invited to participate in the St. Petersburg Opera Festival. Margaret (Austria) to repeat his success with the same role. In the meantime he sang the roles of Scarpia in Tosca, Figaro and Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, Nabucco, Macbeth, and at the summer festival in Solothurn (Switzerland) he sang Marcello in La Boheme with great success.

He made his debut at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo with the opera Simon Bocanegra and was subsequently invited by Maestro Lorin Maazel to participate in the grand opening of the Guangzhou Opera House with Turandot. He made his debut at the Regio di Parma with great success in the role of Ezio in Attila, then sang at the Sofia Opera in the Gena Dimitrova Memorial Concert.In 2011 he returned to the Palau de las Arts to take part in the production of Boris Godunov directed by Andrei Konchalovsky.

He achieved great success both as Barnabas in Gioconda alongside Elisabetta Fiorillo, Roberto Scandiuzzi and Giovanna Cassola at the Teatro Politeama Greco in Lecce, and as a cast member in the production of Der König Kandaules at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Recently he made his debut at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in the production of Rigoletto with Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Desiree Rancatore and Stefan Popp with Maestro Pier Giorgio Morandi conducting. In June of the same year he made his debut at the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste with the role of Ezio in Attila with his brother Orlin Anastasov, for which he won great acclaim.

At the Solothurn Festival in 2013, he participated in many gala concerts and with various roles as Renato in "Masked Ball" and Amonasro in "Aida" alongside stars such as Mario Malanini and Michel Crider. In 2014 he played the role of Friedrich in the opera Das Liebesverbot at Teatro Verdi - Trieste. In 2015 he participated in the Split Summer Festival in Croatia, where he sang the high priest of Dagon in Samson and Delilah and Amonasro in Aida. The same year he sang in Turandot with conducting maestro Zubin Mehta and Andrea Bocelli in Lazattico (Tuscany).

In 2016 she sang in Ernani at the Split Opera House and in The Power of Destiny in Sofia. Later that year he reprised the role of Escamillo in Carmen with Anita Rakhvileshvili and in 2017 sang Stekalov in Boris Godunov at the Marseille Opera House.
