Soprano

Teodora Chukurska graduated from the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome. She specialized in chamber music under Eda Moser in France. At the end of her studies, she was awarded a scholarship for a two-year course at the Academy of Art and Opera Performance Mastery at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, where she worked with world-renowned singers such as Leyla Gencer, Luigi Alva, and Luciana Serra. Her training concluded with a role in the traditional production of The Barber of Seville as Rosina, directed by the French stage director Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and conducted by Enrique Mazzola, on the stage of Teatro alla Scala during the 2004/2005 season. In September 2006, she won the second edition of the “Franco Alfano” competition in Sanremo with the role of Norina in Don Pasquale.

In 2008, Teodora Chukurska made her debut at the National Opera in Sofia in the role of Oscar in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera and as Miss Ellen in Lakmé by Léo Delibes.

Since 2012, Teodora Chukurska has been a soloist with the State Opera Ruse. Already in January 2013, she made a highly successful debut on the Ruse stage in the role of Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto. The Ruse audience continues to recognize and enthusiastically welcome her, especially in her unforgettable portrayal of Rosina in the newest production of The Barber of Seville by the Ruse Opera. All of her appearances on the Ruse Opera stage have been memorable and remarkable.

Her roles include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Countess Rosina in The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart; Violetta Valéry in Verdi’s La Traviata; Liù in Turandot and Lisette in La Rondine by Giacomo Puccini. She impressed the audience with her incredible sense of humor in the first Ruse production of Bulgarians of Old Times, as well as with her unforgettable artistic and vocal performance in Francis Poulenc’s monodrama La Voix Humaine. Teodora Chukurska did not hesitate to debut in the operetta genre either - with the role of Hanna Glawari in Lehár’s The Merry Widow. This was followed by the successful portrayal of the charming Sylva in The Csárdás Princess, and during the anniversary season of the Ruse Opera, the audience applauded her transformation into the role of Maritza in Countess Maritza.

Teodora Chukurska is a singer of the new era - captivatingly artistic, genuine and convincing in her portrayals, driven and inquisitive as an interpreter, passionate and inspiring as an actress. In the multifaceted opera productions and the variety of chamber concerts in which she continually participates, she demonstrates to audiences her mastery of the European vocal styles, all grounded in the solid foundation of the Italian bel canto tradition.
